Open files with Folio.md
On Windows, register the associations under Settings → System → File Association.
- Associate .md files: registers
.md,.markdownand.md-workspace. - Associate .md-crypted files: registers encrypted documents.
The same tab adds entries to the Explorer context menu and to its New submenu. On Windows 11, Open with Folio.md appears under Show more options.
Running in the tray, and restoring on startup
Under Settings → System, you can enable tray mode, choose whether the close button minimises to the tray, and restore the previous folder and tabs at startup. In tray mode, closing the window leaves the app running. To exit completely, choose Exit from the tray icon’s menu.
The app can also be started with a file or folder path. If it is already running, the path is handed to the running app. A start with a path does not restore the previous session.
Set up a proxy
If your network requires one, open Settings → Network.

A manual address does not include http:// or a user name. If authentication is required, choose the method and set the user name and password. User name and password authentication is used only with a manual setting.
Current status shows what is in effect. Restart Folio.md after changing the settings on the OS side.
The proxy settings inside the app do not apply to signing in through a browser, to PDF export, or to the traffic of external programs. Check the settings of the OS and of those programs as well.
Open the log and settings folder
Use Settings → System → Open Settings Folder.

logs holds the operation log, settings.json the settings, and ai-sessions the AI conversation history. The log records errors and warnings above all, and entries older than seven days are removed at startup.
When you report a problem, note the time it happened, the steps you took and the version of the app, and check the relevant log. Look through it for paths and confidential information before sharing it.
After an abnormal exit
A crash report may appear the next time you start the app. Sending it is optional. Check what it contains and what is attached before sending, or close the window to send nothing.
When an abnormal exit has been detected, the tabs and folder from last time are not restored automatically. Open the documents you need from where they are saved.
