Check your license status
Help → License Status… shows the current state, the plan, the expiry, when it was last verified and the registered devices.
Editing is available when the status is Trial, Active, Free Period or Offline Grace. Not Verified also allows editing, but means the license status has not yet been determined. This can happen if the server could not be reached at startup; check your connection.
Locked is the status shown when the license needs your attention before you can edit again. The banner explains the reason and provides the relevant action, such as reactivating an unregistered device, freeing a device slot, or checking payment status.
Even in that state, viewing, saving and HTML / PDF export are available. Editing the text, replacing text, external tools and AI chat are not.
Enter a license key
- Press Enter License Key on the license status screen. The banner opens the same dialog.
- Type the key, in the form
XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. - Give the device a name if you want one you will recognise later.
- Press Activate and read the confirmation.
If the format is rejected, check that you used uppercase letters, digits and hyphens. If the server cannot be reached, check your network settings.
Move to another PC
- Open the license status screen on the machine you are leaving.
- Press Release for This device in the list and confirm.
- Enter the license key on the new machine and activate it.
When the device limit is full, release a device you no longer use from the activation screen or the device list. The number of releases per day is limited.
A device you released yourself can be brought back with Restore, unless another device has taken the slot in the meantime. Copying license.json does not carry activation to another PC.
Using the app offline
What happens depends on how long it has been since the license was last verified.

Once you are back online, press Check Now on the banner. Verification is also retried periodically during the grace period.
The trial is not covered by the offline grace. Its remaining days keep counting down while you are offline, and editing is no longer available when the period is over.
If another device unregistered this one
The status changes to Unregistered and editing is no longer available, but you can still save your existing unsaved changes. The app waits ten minutes before automatically showing the activation dialog, giving you time to save your work. To resume editing, choose Reactivate on the banner.
